Well looks like i am about to get my 360 rebuilt....what are the dos and donts on rebuilding the engine? should i go ahead and turn it into a 390? cam? etc....it will be mainly a hunting truck but i wouldnt mind spicing it up a bit
Dos:
Do your homework!!!
Build the engine as a system and build for reliability and longevity. The K.I.S.S. principle applies
Improve the FE oiling system by restricting the top end thereby feeding more oil to the mains.
Do use quality parts.
Limit the carb to 600-650 cfm. High revers FEs are not
Do find a good machine shop. Head to some car shows or GTGs and ask questions.
Do keep your work area organized, clean, and picked up.
Do use a torque wrench. I have never seen a calibrated elbow.
Do be patient and establish clear expectations with your machinist.
Do establish a budget with a 20% over allowance.
Do treat every part of your engine like a work of art. Need to de-rust parts? Check out my very cheap and effective set-up: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post12033501
Dont's:
Don't tell your machinist about the extra 20% in your budget!
Don't be a pest around your machinist. Call before visiting.
Don't be in a hurry.
