Welcome to FTE!
There are many different routes you can go with EFI. What motor is it, and what are your goals? Do you want throttle body injection, or multi-port? Are you looking to make your own setup with junkyard parts, or get an aftermarket system?
well i got throttle bodie right now and hate it, and i plan on going to multiport, useing junk yard parts, already got most the stuff off of a 86 efi multiport mustang
working on a 302, cfi auto, and i want to change it to the multiport stuff, i got the upper and lower, computer, harness, injectors, the throtel bodie, and a few other things, help!!
I would recommend new injectors and sensors, as these parts do wear over time and can really mess up your EFI install. If the engine had a mass air flow sensor, you need that as well. If not, it sounds like you are pretty much good to go. With the CFI, you should already have a spot in the exhaust for the O2s to mount in. This is a critical part of the feedback system, and should also be new. Just remember when you get parts, they are for an 86 Mustang 5.0 EFI, not for your truck. For now, you could probably get away with a cone-type air filter mounted on the throttle body or the MAF, if so equipped. The Mustang intake does point the opposite way of the truck intake, so you will have to fab up an air tube. Getting a book for the Mustang wouldn't hurt either- it'll tell you where to put power into the computer, etc. You will need a TFI distributor, as that system liked to control idle speed through timing advance. Also, you will need a high pressure fuel pump, and return plumbing to the tank. I'll write more if I think of it.
okay there's a few things you need to make sure you do. I agree new injectors and sensors, and also make sure the wiring is in good shape ( no cracks or splits) after figuring out where to mount the computer, make sure it is grounded very good. computer grounds are a major cause of no-start or poor running conditions. also make sure the injection system is a mass-air system originally. speed density can be switched to mass-air, but the conversion can be difficult. after installing the injection system, make sure you hook a scan-tool up and run a few tests to be sure everything is right. good luck
