Here's anothe random question.. I have an 88 Eddie Bauer (3.0 shorty) that has had a lot of engine work done. I also have a 94 Eddie Bauer (Ext 4.0 E4wd). The 88 seems to have much more power than the 94. Now the 94 definitely needs a tune up (the 88 already had one), and I know it's heavier and larger.. but does it make sense the 88 should see that much more powerful? Other than the tune up.. the 94 has nothing at all wrong with it.. Thanks!
I don't know but I remember my first Aerostar, a 1986 3.0, it had awsome power, then I got a 1992 3.0 and it sucked, it was nothing like the 3.0 liter of the 1986. Now I have a '97 4.0 and it does have power alright, but nothing like the raw power of that '86.
The difference I think, was that the 1986 had the "Towing Package", I don't know what that meant because it didn't come with a hitch. That's all I know.
Yup, the '86 felt more powerful because it was lighter. Its like a Mazda Miata is actually not that powerful, but it sure feels quick and handles well and had a good power to weight ratio. But a comparable engine in a Mazda 626 feels much slower because the car is much heavier.
The Shorties if properly maintained, pretty much always feel quicker than the extended vans. The cornering feels more stable too, which makes it feel sportier as well.
