This was back in 09 . Will post the pics later today .
Do you know I even pulled it from the BOTTOM UPWARD- with the whole trans already bolted to the block !
It was an balancing act but it worked like a charm ! Downside is the whole van is suspended about 2-3 feet .
That's pretty good work. Removing the heads first certainly makes it easier.
Most of the manuals that describe this recommend removing the top plate over the radiator, grill, the radiator, AC condenser, and any front accessories to make it easier to pull out the front.

You are right but that would have been boring haha !
How about going underneath?
Now THAT was fun !
I've heard of some people dropping the engine from underneath. They used what looked like railroad ties to securely hold up the body.
I'm thinking about the day when I'll have to do major work on my engine, and whether I'll still have the strength to pull or drop it. If it's just the heads cracking, or valve recession, I can just pull them, and maybe replace them with something better.

I think this approach is less work because thru the front i had to do the heads .More that you can do the WHOLE drive train in one shot plus the heads are real easy to do right . The heads (3.0) are notorious for not being right or worse was the mistake I made of not sealing the intake manifold - had an oil leak ! With the engine out you have a better easier way and then put it all in - in one shot .
YOU DONT NEED RAILROAD TIES - all I had to do was put the van up on 4 cinder blocks .
I'll put up a photo of that if i can get in .
You gotta know that going under was/is far easier to remove the entire drive train than to remove just the trans or just the motor . I got rid of that horrible A/T and put in an 5 spd .
Many years ago I swapped a 2.8 carb drivetrain out to a efi 2.9. Just dropped the cradle with everything hooked up and rolled it out from under the front. I had way more ambition then though.
