WTF are you all talking about? There is no such thing as a rat rod on this forum. We call these trucks strictly by what they really are, or most closely represent:
It can only be titled as one thing, according to the DMV.
So there is no Hot Rods, Street Rods, ect. on this forum then? Sure we know the year and make of our trucks but we all have different plans for them. Such as restoring or customizing. Dropping or lifting there are different categories of trucks. My fathers rat is a 48-50, 56, pre48(engine), and many more before its done. Its all Ford Truck. Just the same as say a guy who likes some other engine in his truck. Hows that different? Rat is the same just with out paint. Yes there are rats that are unsafe but that doesn't mean they all are. If everyone did the same thing car shows would be boring.
This is the thread that never ends! Yes it goes on and on my friends!
I don't remember the rest of the words?????
I think the OP succeeded in "stirring the pot"
Is this really worth the effort?
Ok, well, I'm goin on to the next thread...Where is that thread about what's better? Ford vs. Chevy? or Hyundai vs Kia? ugh...well enjoy!
Time to move on? More like time to go to bed! It's 11pm west coast time, what are you still doing up?
Like I said before, rat rods exist but they aren't a topic for a Ford truck forum, unless they are Ford trucks. If, however, you are genuinely interested in the topic, I came across an interesting history of the rat rod at Autoculture – History of the Rat Rod « Autoculture. And guess what? It has a forum for discussing it! And even a couple of Ford trucks, albeit pre-'48. Knock yourselves out.
Now I'm going back to reading a jolipes magizine before turning out the light.

I would use the Wagon body of a 48 or 50. Try and make it look like a ford prototype. 3 on the tree with overdrive and a Merc Flatty. Two tone like a root beer metallic sides and tanish cream top and bottom. I would love to see one of you Guru's Photoshop that here. Now I am going to go and Google up some 48 to 50 wagon pic's and dream
I am in my 70's and grow up building hot rods in the 40's and 50's. I have many magazines from that time. I have to agree with 4ti8 I have never seen anything like these rat rods . We all know what we are talking about ( those deathtrap abortions ) Anyone thinking that the home built hot rods of the 40's or 50's influenced these clown cars is insulting to anyone who grow up in that time.

I'm an old guy too, maybe not quite as old, but old nonetheless. However I'm not just expressing my opinion and preaching it as gospel because I was there. I researched the history of the term 'Rat Rod'. I've attached two photos of the original cars that the term was coined from, the owner of 'Eights and Aces' is credited with coining the term. They aren't "deathtrap abortion clown cars." They were built to thumb their noses at the Boyd Cottington creations. Later the "deathtrap abortion clown cars" came along and embraced the term 'Rat Rod', to the dismay of the original Rat Rodders, who refer to it as devolution of the form.
Here is a quote: "What started out as a rejuvenating breath of fresh air in the stagnating culture of arena rods in the early Nineties has, somehow, become a cartoon version of itself: poorly-built heaps cobbled together by misguided “ratrodders” who revel in their rusty buckets, throwing their empties in the parking lot and yelling “goldchainer!” and “ol’ skool!” in the same sentence. Shame is, they don’t really have any idea what got them there in the first place."
Again, here's a link to the history of the RR. It's a long read, ten pages. Yeah, I know, ten pages doesn't sound like a lot, but in the internet age with its short attention spans....Autoculture – History of the Rat Rod « Autoculture
All I can say is thankfully the goldchainers didn't call their 'Crap Rods' 'Fat-Fendered Fords' and have it stick!
