Wife had the truck out for a long run in the country yesterday, around 100 miles at 55 mph or so, some city driving at each end, light load (maybe 500 lbs). Scangauge showed 21.8 mpg for the trip, which I thought was excellent. What are other experiences with somewhat optimized fuel mileage?
My '05 had similar fuel mileage BEFORE I had to replace the FICM.
Interstate driving, somewhat rolling terrain, I got about the same as yours. On flat terrain near the coast, it was slightly better.
After replacing the FICM, my best mileage on the interstate is maybe 18 mpg.
The default answer you get is "we didn't buy these trucks for the fuel mileage". Nonetheless, a 20% drop in mpg's is noticeable regardless of what kind of mileage you're getting.
I took a trip with the wife a few years back to CO, and I got between 20-23mpg's on the trip. Truck was unloaded, and I took my sweet time to be careful cause she pregnant with our son. Honestly, I thought it was the fuel cause all we have is Biodiesel here.
But really, one time I caught a solid tailwind out of Raton, then again out of Amarillo, and got almost 16mpgs back to Lubbock. That is the one and only time I broke 500 miles on a tank, 32 gallons stuffed in and 510 miles from Parker to Plainview.
