F-550 used for the Oshkosh Sandcat - Questions
Hello,
since we got pretty interesting information about the 19.500lbs ratet F-550 chassis, i am curious how close this chassis, especially the frame really is to the one used on the oshksoh sandcat:
Ford F550 Super Duty - Oshkosh SandCat - Diesel Power Magazine
Most online ressources i found are telling pretty much the same: Its a F-550 chassis, normal frame, only shortened to 116, with some upgrades on the super 60 front axles and a single rear wheel version of the rear axle. The leaf spring got removed and no ther's a trailer arm on coil springs.
But is it really possible to transform a 19.550 lbs civil chassis, calculatet for more or less light offroading into a military vehicle with the same gvwr? Some ressources suggest that that gvwr got slightly reduced down to 17.950lbs, but still is the base chassis so strong?
And why isnt ford using this relationship with oshkosh to launch something like a "SuperdutyRaptor" based on the oshkosh-F550-modified chassis? How awesome would that be?! This truck would place any Powerwagon easily into shame!
Greetings

I think it looks pretty nice, but like i mentioned, the capabilities are much more interesting. A GVW of around 18.000lbs is quite impressive if it really is capable to transport this through harsh offroad, which is why i like to know weather or not the frame has undergone modifications or has just been shortened.
