Ill be taking my trans in to get it rebuilt next week and I was wondering... It will be dry inside, do I dump all 20 qts in and call it good or do I get it in fired up and slowly add oil to it. How much oil at first an dhow do I add the rest?
Clearing out the cooler... Whats the best way to do that? Air hose in one end and force it all out? What kind of air pressure should I use? If not how?
I dont know much about a trans. but I know you never start an engine with out priming it, thats what Im getting at.
Thanks
You could call it good with 20 quarts in it, but it will not be good. It will be overfilled and puking fluid all over the place.
Put 12 quarts in it and then run the engine for ONE MINUTE. Shut it down and pour in another 4 quarts. Restart the engine and warm it up. Run the shifter through each position from P to 1 and back and then set the level.
i just fitted a JW trans to mine and his instructions were to spray a can of cleaner( carb cleaner) through the lines then blow it through. done from the rear line then on initinal start up have the rear line disconected with a hose attached to a container, pump a couple of quarts out first then reconect to the auto...
What about the Trans cooler? Blow it out with low pressure air?
Napa sells Trans line flush in an aerosol can. Right or wrong I flushed from one direction and then the other direction to try to loosten up anything stuck inside. Then blew it out with low pressure like Mark said. Good luck!
Put one quart in the TQ? 12 in the Trans fire for 1 min. Then 4 additional quarts warm it up put it threw the gears and check it again and again and again. I'm just making sure because nothing was said about the converter.
It won't hurt to put a quart in the converter, but it won't help, either. You don't have to put anything in the converter. The trans will fill it.
If the trans comes with the converter installed I would not take the converter off to add fluid. You risk damaging a seal, which would mean pulling the trans out again.
