97, 7.3- E40D trans problem?

Hey guys, new to this site. Need your help. I have 97-f250the x-cb, 7.3 with 210,000ms, e4od. Original eng, trans. Purchased truck at 195,000 m's about 7 yrs ago. No major issues. Towed race car from time to time no more than 400 miles at a pop. Truck never over heats, always maintained. Towed car 2for weeks prior 200 miles developed a prom. Noticed slight accident hesitation when shifting into reverse while trying to back up with trailer, then strained to go forward. Chief fluid peck 7qts short after cool down. Trans fluid blown back from pan to under carriage. Trans able to shift after guide replacement. Slight burnt smell, but volatile not dark. Cleaned underneith , ran for a few miles no leaks except small drop and collection under converter while area of bell housing, trans shift's fine without trailer load. What gives? Sorry for ext post. Thanks, Tooburnt

What does trans able to shift after guide replacement mean? Did you replace the front seal and fill with fluid? If you blew that much oil out the seal, more than likely you will need a convertor too as a seal won't last long on the worn convertor. You evidently did overheat the trans or it wouldn't have puked the fluid. I'd be a little worried about putting a new convertor in there with those miles and what happened without a rebuild on the trans. JMO
