I have a 2006 f350 6.0 I have 1005000 miles on it with a manual transmission. I am looking to get a little more power and better fuel milage with out loosing dependability. What should I do?

If you want more power, you can/will/possibly/might lose reliability.

Now since you have a manual trans I would say go with SCT or Edge, SCT being the favorite

There aint much in the world you can do to any machine that has power gains and reliability gains. There is a compromise. Pick your poison.

about the only thing most of us do that will improve mileage and not mess wtih reliability is a Fuel additive. Some sort of Cetane Boost. There are also some small upgrades that can improve reliabity and possibly mileage such as the blue spring upgrade. Also a nice set of guages like SG2 (scan guage 2) can help you catch a problem before it reaches major repair status or just as bad stranded on road side status. I would say by Far the most IMPORTANT thing is keep up on the maintenance. Do it as stated by Ford if not more often.

One thing it seems that a lot of people forget is
Tire pressure. If it's low you have more rolling
resistance.Fresh oil of the right type and weight.
Don't sit and idle.Dump all the junk you don't need.
The less you have to carry the less fuel you will
use to do that. I don't mean leave your spare tire
out. But the box of pipe that you forgot to remove
from a job that happened last year would be a good thing
to drop in the shed.

Also might try sending the ficm to ed for upgrade and a program on it if it hasn't been done before. I haven't heard anything but good thing. Even a slight mileage boost.

All in how you drive it. That's going to be your best bet. Tuners themselves are performance products first and foremost. Some people, depending on how they drove their vehicle, saw an improvement after they put the tuner on their truck. Marketing for the tuner companies did the rest.

In general, I'm not an additive fan period (fuel or oil), but I could see where cetane booster would be the best thing to do if you just feel this overwhelming need to purchase something to improve MPG.

You will get to a point of diminishing returns and it seems to happen with MPG quicker then most.

Congratulations on having over a million miles (instead of one hundred five thousand?).

With over a million miles on it, I wouldn't mess with it to much...

fuel milage. you can push it doen the street.
reality sets in when you figure out how tired of pushing a truck that weighs close to 8000lbs is. the truck feels the same way, and gets thirsty as a result

That's why I go to the true horsepower when I'm worried about mileage. And it helps with pushing the DRW as well.
