part time tach
my tach is an on again off again one day working just fine the next nothing,.before i start hunting around thought i'd ask if anyone had a quick look or a common issue i should look for,.it an 1981 ranger 351 2v,.thanks gunner

I cant be certain on the 5.0, but I had this issue on a Honda I had years ago and it was the ignition coil that caused the issue. Some days my tach worked, others it didnt. Or it would work up to around 2500 RPM then drop off to nothin'. At the time a replacement wasnt available aftermarket and the dealer wanted about $175 for a new one. I ended up goin' to the parts store and bought a $30 MSD coil and made a new harness to adapt to the factory wiring along with a new mount bracket and it fixed the problem...
