Hey guys. Iv got a question thats prolly pretty stupid but, hey, sometimes your suprised about the asnswer! I bought a BBC a few years ago. Came with a set of valves. I was wondering if theyres a distinct difference between a set of Chevy valves and Ford valves?
I have a book called "How to Build Max Performance Ford V-8's on a Budget". In the chapter on valves, It says this: "A popular Ford small block performance trick is to use larger 1.94/1.60 in Chevrolet valves." It also says in the cylinder head chapter: "Just look for 1.84/1.54 in valves,..." on looking for a 93-95 Cobra GT-40 head.
So people do run Chevrolet valves in Ford heads, but the head has to be machined for it. I dont know if the stems are the same size or not though.
Shaft diameter and length, and head size.. There are some that are really close and can be made to work with enough machine shop work.... But just because they are gm or Ford has nothing to do with it, it's all in the sizes!!!!
^^^ Thats how I figured it went. Iv got access to a lathe to turn em down OR I could always just take the heads to a shop and have em put in bigger seats and such. I figured this will save me a couple hundred bucks anyways!
