Another EGR question

Drive an '07. 170,000 miles - bone stock. Was getting po 404 error code - changed the EGR - runs about 5 minutes and code comes back. Clear the core run all day as long as I don't shut it off and no code. Shut it off - code returns. I tried plugging and unplugging in the engine off - key on position - no luck.

Anybody have any ideas?

Also, what is the advantage of doing a delete on a truck of my year and mileage?
