Funny the grandkids didn't keep Grandpa's keychain...
The only side tool box that I had used a latch like you find on utility beds. The lock cylinder on mine looked like it was made of potmetal and nothing would turn it.
I did not know tht dealer add on a/c units used the factory in dash vents; at least the center ones look to be there. I also didn't know any Ranger XLT's came without a/c in '79.
A/C was always optional. It seems I see more non-A/C/aftermarket A/C than factory A/C. Some people consider dealer or aftermarket A/C a plus because it does away with that huge evaporator housing on the passenger side firewall that pretty much takes up all the room in the engine compartment.
A lot of the systems used trim that looked like the factory vents.
My recollection is the lock on the bedside toolbox latch has a very simple key. I would think it's likely a locksmith would have a set of keys, one of which would fit your lock.
A week or two ago I started a thread asking if anyone had a bedside toolbox liner (the plastic toolbox itself) for sale as mine was toast. I don't think I got a single reply...
If you'd be interested in selling that part. I'd like to buy it, assuming it's in good shape.
