They are not near a main road, so this wasn't impulse. Planned.. Duh, they brought stuff to use as blocks.

No, this is why our insurance is so high. Every time something like this happens the insurance companies take note of the vehicle, the neighborhood, the time and day and so forth and we all pay. The same vehicle will have a hundred different insurance rates across the country based on all of the above and much more.
I am sorry for your friends' loss as there is always a sense of violation. When my truck was key punched I was mad at the thief of course but then I was mad at several other entities (Ford for one as their lock mechanism might as well not even be installed) and then I was mad at myself for some dumb reason. It's not like we invite people to do this to us.

Wow, that disgusts me. One of the reasons I like having my 2 dogs, my shepard/lab is very protective of our yard.
Curious if they were aftermarket rims??

That is just plain sickening.had to be very well thought out.
Kinda reminds me off that ford dealer where somefolks stole something like 20 trucks tires and wheels of a well light ford dealer lot.
I pray someone seen something and there lousy butts go to jail.

Here in sc every scrap yard takes a photo of what you're selling AND the person selling it, including their DL#. It was a pain when the law went into effect but now that everyone's used to it, it's a good thing.
Tell your buddy to stop by and say hello, we all feel for them.
