Back in January, I had the CEL come on with code P0299. Took the truck in and was told the unison ring was bad and had the turbo rebuilt for just under $1000.00. Last month, the CEL came on again with the same code. This time, I was told it was an exhaust back pressure sensor. I had it replaced along with the plastic tube next to it for just under $400.00. Yesterday, the CEL came on again with the same P0299 code. I've only put about 2500 miles on the truck since the first repair. Can anyone please give me some advice on what to do? I can't keep replacing parts and having the code keep coming back. At this point, I refuse to go back to the same dealership as I simply don't trust them. Is there anything I can do (limited mechanical ability) that will solve this problem?
I was having intermittent CEL with 0299 as well. Plus a light smell of raw diesel, that we had a hard time locating. Finally found the smell was from a leak on the secondary fuel filter, and it was leaking on the wiring harness, for the temp sender, melting the insulation. This screwed with the computer, causing cold running problems, etc. Fixed the wiring and the filter issue. CEL is gone now and all the other weird problems are gone. I hope your issue is as relatively simple to solve.
Today when I started the truck, a few seconds later I heard a sharp noise that sounded like a high-pressure air leak. The sound was not continuous, but only a brief sound. Could I have a leak in one of the up-pipe fittings? Are there other places I should check as well?

Yes the uppipes have Flex Joints that can develop a Leak these normally give the cab an exhaust smell
P0299 can be caused from alot diffrent things
Uppipe flex joint crack
CAC Boot Leaks
Bad EBP sensor or plugged tube
Bad MAF sensor or plugged tube
Leak In intercooler
Rare but a Plastic cold side CAC Tube cracks
Look for Black SOOT on firewall from leaky uppipe
can Also Feel around the Upipes when trucks cold do it really Fast at startup
Can Also hang a string on a stick see if it Blows around Back there at Firewall area
I have a 06 f250 6.0 liter with 118,000 and stock with an edge evolution only used for the guages and an afe filter. I was towing a boat thru the desert with mild grades when my engine light came on. I checked dts and it said p0299 ts/ underboost. The truck ran fine but it would have a high turbo whine. I reset it and it did it again about 150 miles. When I am not towing it is fine any suggestions?
