On my 96 f350 the brake pedal is hard to press down and then it returns slow. By hard to press i mean when i first press it it will not move unless i press down harder, then when it brakes free it presses down the rest of the way easy. It does this most of the time also. I did a search and come up with master cylinder or vacuum pump. The brake light isnt coming on so im not sure if it is loosing vacuum. What do you guys think? Truck has bout 110k on it so i would say most the stuff is original.
Are the brakes hard immediately ? then I would assume vacuum pump....unless lines are deteriorated from the tree ( manifold ) .....you need to test for vacuum ......
As soon as i get in and fire it up i have to press the pedal down hard, like it is stuck. Then it breaks free and it feels like a normal pedal the rest of the way down. After i take my foot off it it doesnt come up right away. It just slowly returns back up. Thanks for the help so far. I will try a test tomorow to see if it does it with the motor off.
Bad booster maybe? I had a '95 F250 gasser that did the exact same thing and it was the booster.
Bill, i changed the booster out on my welding truck today and that fixed the problem! The pedal is alot smoother now not hard. I got the zero loss booster from ford. It was a little pricey but it fixed my problem. Reps sent bill.
