F250HD mods

Ok, i figured this would be the best way to find out what I need to do to my truck instead of creating a new thread everytime I had a question.

Truck has the 460 engine and E40D tranny, are there any mods or deletes I should do to make my truck a better rig? I just did the air horn delete so that's done but is there anything else I should consider? It doesn't appear that my truck has the MAF or an ODB II connector, is this correct?

Correct. Our trucks use speed density so all your computer info comes from the cam.

One way to give it a little extra pep for free is to give it a couple degrees timing. I put mine on 12* BTDC and it seemed to help it get off the line just a little better and run a bit healthier.

These computers are picky so your kind of limited. Free flowing intake and exhaust are your 2 best bets then some head work will be the next best power adder

Thanks El Camino Man! It's been a long time since i've worked on an older motor, how do I got about changing my timing? I would need a timing light and adjust the distributor accordingly yes?

Exactly! Its pretty straight forward. Its a helluva lot easier than a Chevrolet where ya cant hardly get to the distributor lol.

Another thing I did was find the timing mark that I wanted and highlighted it with a bright colored sharpie (chalk or something bright would be better) then when your timing it, just line up the pointer to the chalk and your done!

On the Fords don't forget to remove the SpOut connector before checking and setting the timing, other wise the ignition module will just correct for any changes you make.

^^^ Very good point!!! I almost forgot to do this when I did mine lol. I couldnt figure out why I was getting 20* BTDC lol. It was because I forgot to remove the spout lol

That depends on a few factors. Model year and whether or not the truck has California emission equipment. There were a few OBD-I MAF 7.5L trucks out there in late 1997. The 1996 and 1997 7.5L F250/350 trucks with California emissions were OBD-II and MAF.

I looked for an OBD II data link connector and could not locate one, same with the MAF sensor so I believe I have the non Cali emissions truck.

A cali emissions truck is about as rare as they come as far as Ford trucks lol. You can convert to OBD II and MAF if ya got the cash... Its a pretty pricey process. But I have heard of people taking MAFs from 5.0s and making it work? Not sure what all that entails though or if its worth thr effort

I'm good with the truck the way it is, I basically only use it for hauling my toys around in the summer and winter so it's not my daily driver.

I've got another question, I think I may have found a spare tire carrier for it. I found an ad on Craigslist, he says it should fit but I thought I would ask the experts here to make sure. This is the ad.

FORD 86-97 *** Parts Truck *** body, transmission, transfer case, etc.

Another question for the Ford guru's, would the stock air intake from a '95 F350 diesel work on an '97 F250 with the 460 motor?
