I have a '73 F-100 with 302 and (3.03) 3 speed manual. It also has the two piece driveshaft with the center bearing.
I want to drop in a C4 from a '77 Granada that had a 351W. It appears that the tranny mount will drop into the crossmember just fine, but I'm not yet sure if I'll have to modify (cut, lengthen, etc.) the driveshaft front half.
Has anyone done this, and what did it require? Thanks, Polkat.
How long is the tailshaft? I assume the c4 you have is a pan fill. Ford made one that is long and an odd ball one that is short. If you find one that is the same dimentions as yours, it is a direct bolt on swap. Good luck
That's the problem. The tailshaft is longer (I made another post addressing that), and I'm trying to decide if I should modify (cut) the front shaft, or try and fine a one piece shaft that will fit. I've never fully understood why Ford went to a two piece shaft anyway.
If you want to replace the tail shaft you might as well rebuild the one you have. There is alot involved in swapping the two out. I should know since i accidently pulled a short tail shaft tranny out of a 72 when i needed a long tailshaft. it is still sitting in my shed, i haven''t touched it at all really other than getting the mount off of it, and heck that didnt fit either.
