I have a 99 Ford F250 with a V-10. I pulled our old TT over to Spokane to trade it for a new 2013 RockWood 26' TT. The trip over went good. My old TT weighed in at 8300 lbs dry and over 10,000 wet. The new one weighs in at 5717 dry and around 6700 wet. The weight made a big difference when pulling.
Now for the strange happenings. On the way back, my ABS light came on my truck and the speedometer needle starting jumping around. It would show my speed and then drop to Zero then back up again. It was all over the place. Neither one of this issues had happen before. After I disconnected the trailer, everything went back to normal.
I can understand the ABS light, maybe. But what could have caused the needle to jump around? I contacted the RV dealer and they have no idea what could have casued it. The only other thing that happen was the fuse blew on the tounge jack.
This is a classic description of what happens when the ABS/Speed sensor on the top of your real differential decides to go south. (My experience is with a few model years late, but is probably accurate).
Recommend getting the ABS code read with a Ford ABS-capable reader. That will tell you what component the ABS system thinks is bad. Check the wiring and connections to that component (rear sensor). Clean the connection to the rear sensor too. Clear the code and try driving the truck.
If you are very lucky, the problem was just a corroded connection. If not, you would need to change out the rear ABS/Speed sensor, clear codes and try again.
This is a good excuse to go looking for a code reader. I use an Innova. Sort of wish that I picked up an Auto Enginuity instead.....
