hey guys trying to drop the tank and do my hutch mod. cant seem to get the fuel line clips with the blue retainer off.
looking for pics or walk thoughs.
fill tube off it was pretty stuck and have ragsin hose to prevent dirt etc from fallin in
already have skid removed and the harness away.
ive broken both side of the fuel lines going to fuel pump. bought new fuel hose for them bc im adding new 12 micron napa filter tomorrow. as a pre pump filter.
just cant get the lines ontop the tank to release space is tight need help..
Are you using the proper size disconnect tool? I have not had good luck with the cheap-o "hat" shaped disconnect, but the ones with a handle at an angle seem to work better for me, they were a little harder plastic.
i might be going all wrong with this im going to need that tool for the lines with the blue clips.
i was under the impression that the tool was for the s/s clamp with the oring that needs the tool and that the blue clip get picked to the side and wala it comes away.
the clips im trying to remove are plastic and they have blue clip at the ends.
almost like a lock key no spring that i can see on either of the line at the tank or at the back side of the pump.
the side coming in from the tank to the fuel pump is plastic and the side leaving the pump was ss with a banana 4 sided clip that the tool would have been used for to compress the barb looking tabs.
the ones with the blue clip look nothing like the ss.
hey big al i got the clips off. sorry about the confusion and thanks for the info. it made me stop and think for a min the clips are a"push in the blue clip " from the side to release not a pull out.
i was affaid to drop the tank with them attached there was more than enough room to get it down and unclip it. will start on tank tomorrow will prob take the pressure washer to it tomorrow too. mud everywhere since im that far into it. time for some summer cleaning.
BTW with the new pump and regulator fixed; im i going to need a lift pump for this napa 12 micron filter/water sep. this thing is massive looks like it holds at least a quart.
worried about pressure being to low. and burning up the brand new pump. and if i do that what pump is next in line for the added extra stress. mild budget really dont want to drop more than 2 or 3.
I run a Vormax dual stage filter as a pre pump. It's got jeez, maybe 100k on it and the original pump has over 287k on it and there's been no issues. Yeah a little 5-7psi lift pump won't hurt, but it's not necessary
the major prob i was told was the air was seepin through the o ring on the ss fuel coupler, that leaves the fuel pump. well that line(ss)on the exit of the fuel pump was damaged by me upon tryin to remove the bad fuel pump. i have new hose connecting it back cant help to notice that there is another one of those ss couplers at the cross member.
do i need to replace that one too??
its the purpose of doing the hutch mod and the fuel filter to remove the air out of the system. i dont want to half a$$ the job. i want to make sure this prob is gone for good.
I don't use any of the connectors Ford put on before the pump- I just use diesel rated fule hose and double clamp all the connections, that should help with the air sucking problem.
things that i finished the lines are all dont the filter is in(had trouble with trying to get the fuel filter up high enough. sits kinda low about a inch higher than the trans skid i hope i dont catch anything, wasnt able to find anything high to mount a nine inch filter w housing, ins up being almost 11" inchs tall(12 microns ) well the hutch mod is finished the ebp is cleaned out with new sensor the IC tube is polished and the CCV is done.
All thats left is putting the tank up and priming her. lets hope it wasnt in vain.
i wish i could fig out the pic forum and show everything that i just did including the umbella that came out of the tank and the amount of blockage that was in the mixing chamber tubes comepletely clogged ford is slick about putting those things in like that so the common idiot will pay them big cash for what should be a recall....
my hat is off to all u guys and most of all to the guy " HUTCH " for this he needs some kinda nobel prize or something.
Gld you got so much done, you may not have a noticeable difference, but you definitely won't be shooting yourself in the foot by getting rid of that crap in the tank and running new lines. Simplicity always works better ya know? As for the filter, mine sticks down a bit too, but if I knock that off driving off road (in a dually, not the best thing) I know there will be more damage that I'd have to worry about. My only worry would be running over something on the highway and damaging the filter, that's why I carry the double barb connector I mentioned previously, so I can keep fuel getting to the engine til I fix the filter. BTW, depending on what size fuel tank you have you'll need anywhere from 5-15 gals to get her primed again. When I did my tank (55 gal aftemarket) it took me 20 friggin gals to get it primed! What a PITA making trips back and forth in the wifes car 5 gals at a time when the truck was on the side of the road- she started with what iput in the filter, but died 1/2 a mile from the house
