I have a C6 transmission that came from a 68 Ford Parklane car that fits a 428 (FE) motor. I want to use the 428 and trans in a 77 Ford fwd truck project that I have. I would like to get a C6 from a 77-79 Bronco/F-150 that has a NP205 transfer case attached (mated)and use the innards, tail shaft and tail housing in the 68 C6 housing to have it mate up to the 428. Has anyone here done this before? How did it work out? Was there any issues inside the case that made it a difficult swap? Any help would be appreciated. I am not interested in using a divorced transfer case unless it is impossible to make this work. Thanks........ROB
Thanks Mark, I don't know the exact mileage on the FE trans so I figured that I would rebuild it when it was apart. I don't want to end up with 2 completely disassembled transmissions and still be at square 1 if the internal parts are not compatible for some reason. By chance have you or anyone you have heard of ever done this type of swap? Thanks again........ROB
that's how mine worked out. I have a 77 that was a carptastic 400 from the factory and the first thing I did was stick a 68 390 and had a local tranny shop swap out the gut's & what not between the tranny's
I put the tailshaft and housing from a 79 F150 4x4 big block C6 into a early 80's small block van C6. (did a small block swap on my truck). It really wasn't all that bad as long as you keep up with everything. There is a snap ring nearly at the back of the transmission that has to come off to release the tail shaft.

G, did you have to change the perch mounts for the motor to fit in the truck?
I've heard of them but they seem to be like finding hens teeth. Do you happen to know what years they were used?
The last year would have been 77 just like in the 250's, not sure of the first year of married transfer cases, but should be at the latest 73. Might well have been used in the late 60's as well, seem to remember some of the 100's back then were actually divorced, but could be wrong on that.
From looking it up Here it looks like 73-77 only. Be aware that the transmissions from the 250's will not work as are, unless it is possible to take the short tail housing off to slide into the transfer case, which is something I do not know. I see they had the 250 trannies listed as a fit. I don't know your location, so you will have to dial it in to your location.
Fellro, I have seen a lot of the divorced transfer cases in the 72 and older trucks. They also seem to be prevalent in the F-250's that are pre 351-400m. I guess the FE motors were used 77 and prior? I think most were sold with the big 4sp standard trans. Those are a dime a dozen.

That's really good info to know. Without those little helpful hints, a major job like that can turn into a nightmare.
