Do you guys get the emission less 6.7 powerstroke, export only, over there? I know they make them they are in the order guide. Not sure what the fuel standards are.
I'm not sure, as I have seen very few late model Ford trucks here. Mostly Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and European trucks. Explorers and Expeditions, but not trucks. Now, if you want "old" trucks, as in early 80's, and prior, this place is heaven.
The problem we have here is that all the fuel still has a higher sulphur content than back there. And few, if any, additives. None of the current engines are listed as "export" currently. The E-350 and -450 van chassis that were the primary units for Type II and III ambulances are no longer available here in diesel. Not even in gasoline. They won't export them.
The Saudi Red Crescent EMS agency is ready to make a big purchase of new Type I ambulances based on the F-350 chassis. The F series trucks, and Dodge Rams are the only diesels that we can get that I know of right now. Foreign chassis, no problem, but we can't get a US ambulance manufacturer to build on a foreign chassis for export. They can only do it if it stays in the US.
Therein lies my problem. No American diesel engines really available like they used to be anymore for here in the desert.
For the most part these trucks have been out awhile and the "bugs" have been identified. I spent years in Riyadh, loved the sand storms (not), but got to make friends with several of them I had as students. Glad to see they are purchasing Ford products now. The fuel quality would be the only problem I would forsee. If the refineries are not taking out the sulfer, and you can get vehicles without the US emission stuff, then these trucks shouldn't be a problem. Might stock up filters as the sand is going to be a problem on any vehicle. The military is going to retrofit some of their vehicles with the 6.7, so they feel it is reliable (without the emissions fed mandated stuff). Too bad I didn't buy a ton of gold while I was there back in the 80s. I would be rich.
The 6.7 will not handle the heavy sulfur. From the fuel pump to the injectors. THIS WILL BE A ISSUSE. You need to find and diesel engine that can handle the fuel type.
There was an earlier thread about this. Someone wanted to export one and it was not available. This must be changing since I recently read an article that the military has chosen the 6.7 to power the vehicle that is to replace the hummers. Had a picture of it but can't recall what it was called. This was only a month or 2 ago.
