I just got my 390 running and feel that my vacuum is low.It is around 9-10". at idle .I feel that maybe the rocker's are to tight. they are non adj. but havn't had a chance to check them yet!
Just wondering how much some of you guys have on a similar setup up.
Here what I have.
68 LTD Z code 390 .030 over
10.5 to 1 CR (stock)
.513 lift 224 dur 112 sep
c8ea-h heads with 2.09 1.65 ss vavles,milled .015, bore hogged,
stock cast iron intake "for now"
headers 1 3/4 pri.
holley 600cfm
With your carb/intake/cam combo, you should have 15"-18". You should definetly check your lifter preload and look for vac leaks. Did you degree the cam?
Yep! Valves turned out to but to tight! I was trying to get by without have to buy Adjustable Rockers.
Will Adj. rockers fit on non adj shafts? Napa sells the Adj. rocker asemblies for around $110 per side.I think the push rods are aroung $2.20 each. Anyone know of a cheaper source?
Once I do find some, whats the best way to set them.I set the ones on my Lightning to 0 lash plus 1/2 turn. Is that about right for a FE?
Thanks,Johnny
That sounds way too cheap for adjustables. Thats less than what I sell non's for. Please double check for me. Thats more like the price for arms, not assemblies. You can get shorter pushrods and not spend so much money. If you go with adjustables, take the play out and then run the engine. After its warm, tighten until ticking goes away.
Here's a a few thing I copied from Napaonline .That's our Master installer price. Which must be what they are changing everyone that buy's online. I had looked it up in the catalog and priced it at the local store before I looked online. I was wrong about the push rod price. The first two things listed below is what I need right???
Clevite Engine Parts Rocker Arm Assy
Usually ships within 3 to 5 days. CEP
2301024 $ 109.00
Thats one hell of a deal. Youll need two shaft assemblies and 16 pushrods(for the mechanical lifters). The shaft assemblies should come with the adjusting screws. Used set-ups usually sell for more than that on ebay. You might want to check availability, they may take awhile to get ahold of
I'm going to check availabilty tommorow and maybe go ahead and order them! So your saying tighten until the click goes away, but don't tighten anymore after that!

You can get a set of brand new adjustable rocker assemblies for $215 + shipping from DSC as well as matching pushrods for $40. With the cam you're running, the only real concern is the .015 you cut off the heads, and using adjustables will make this a non-issue. I had mine 8 days after I mailed out the money order for them.
