Hi guys, sometimes when I'm stopped and have tranny in neutral, and then try to put it in gear, it is really difficult to get it to go into 2nd or 3rd. Most of the time, I then put it in reverse and then it'll shift into 2nd fine, and then I can take off. I'm thinking maybe throwout bearing? Any ideas what it might be?
It could be the clutch dragging.
Do you have at least 1" and less than 2" free pedal travel. Are you pushing the clutch all the way to the floor when you try to shift.
Is the transmission oil level at or above the fill hole?
Sometimes folks squirt a lot of oil in quick and then put the plug in. When the oil gets hot it is way too full.
It should be just below the fill hole (Try as much as half inch below fill hole and see if this helps).
If the oil level is too high it stops the gears from spinning free and makes it hard to mesh.
From a dead stop in neutral, may np435 like it when you push the pedel to the floor and count one...two and move the shifter to 2nd. The gears are just barely spinning and mesh easily.
If I wait more than 2 seconds it is hard to pull in gear. It is a timing thing.
This is due to wear on 2nd gear syncronizer. This syncronizer is made onto a gear and is expensive to replace so deal with as long as you can.
Well it usually does happen after I've let it sit in neutral for a while. Just get tired of holding the clutch in while sitting in traffic. I've never checked the fluid level. But it seems to me it's more what you're talking about after more than a couple of seconds is when it does it. Thanks for the tip.
