The 06 XL ext cab that I just picked up doesn't have a dome light visible, but a 8in x 8in panel gray in color screwed to the top.
Is this a factory patch or someone's attempt to cover a hole left by a PO.
I am interested in having a working dome light.
John, you omitted a very important factor when you asked this question. The XL was the price leader, also known as a "stripper." Many were sold as fleet vehicles.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the higher priced stuff, XLT's, Lariats and etc all came with dome lights.
There were several different locations and types (dome light only, dome light/map lamp combination, dome lamp/map lamp combinations w/adjustable spot lamps).
In today's world, all that's needed to look up parts is the specific vehicles VIN. Typed into FoMoCo's computer system, ALL the specific parts that were installed on the vehicle come up on the screen.
Go to a dealer, pass along your VIN to the partscluck, if it came with a dome lamp originally, you'll know within seconds.
Bill I know it is an XL, on the right coast it is called a work truck, strippers is wimmins over here.
I removed the 4 screws holding the cover to find a double thickness of 1/2" MFD. I don't know how it was put up there unless the headliner was removed, as it is larger than the hole.
Then another observation no push buttons visible, I'd say no factory dome light.
No telling what the OO did for the 6 x6 hole that is up there.
There are thousands of lights on Ebay, I'll get something figured out.
