Head gasket ??

Steam out the tail pipe, misfire codes, rough idle. No water in oil, no over heating. What do you think...

Could be, but it is normal to have at least some steam out the tailpipe. Does the steam smell sweet? Worn valve seats, cracked heads is very common, almost all 4.0L and 3.0L engine with over 120,000 miles have some degree of this problem going on, but it often doesn't get bad enough to notice till much later.

its a 04 3.0L with 170k on it, steams all the time while the engine is running, misfire smooths out off idle.
