Has anyone used one, or heard of them? Theres one for sale used about an hour away from me. Any input on this, or should I hold off on something different? It says Superchip 1705 Max Micro Tuner.
I have one. It is the only tuner that I've ever had, so I can't compare it to any of the others. It is simple to upload the new tune, simple to put it back to stock. Handy code reader too.
I have one of those also. I like it very well. Gives more power, better shifts and better mpg. Not sure what it means by 'locked'. I bought mine about 5 years ago new for around 120.00, from 'O'reilys' I would be leery of of buying one that the owner knows nothing about. Some of the programs may be corrupted. I would not hook it up to my truck. SuperChips is a sponsor of this site. Send them an e-mail and ask them what can be done about it. If it can be 'looked over' and brought up to specs, it would be a good buy. If not, walk away. I also use mind as a Code Reader. But.... if there is an issue with it, I don't want it talking to my truck.
I used to run a superchips tuner, it definitely gives the motor a power boost and improves shifting, however, if you tow, i wouldn't recommend using it during towing. Transmission temps and egt's sky rocketed on my truck when towing. Personally, now that I run a DP tuner f5, I would never go back.
When they are talking about it being "locked" possibly, that would mean it is vin locked. Each Superchip programmer can only be used on one truck at a time. When you hook it up, it uploads the stock program into the tuner and locks it with the vin number of that truck.. then downloads the new tune to the truck. if it is vin locked, that means someone elses stock tune is locked into the programmer and you won't be able to use it for anything except a code reader.
IMO, I would hold out for some custom tunes from one the many great tuners out there. Also, start off with gauges to monitor your trucks vitals if you don't already have them. Good Luck , if it were me, I'd back away from it and look into other options.
I have the Superchips. I keep it on high performance and i tow a gooseneck trailer quite a bit. Never had a problem with it.
I would not buy one that is locked.
Before you buy make sure it will upload to your truck if its vin locked it will tell you and you can up date them online i do mine every 1year i had it on a 04 f250 gaser and now its on a01 f350 4x4 7.3 i run it on fuel save mod gits about 16 to 17 runing 70 75
