Hey guys, new to forum and hope I can get some info. I have a 2002 F-250 with 132K. Truck has been wonderful the 6 years that I've owned it. 2 weeks ago, while driving home from work, truck missed hard once and the check engine light came on. Ran fine the last two miles home but once I pulled in the driveway, truck cut off. I scanned it and got a P-0340 (CPS) so I replaced with a sensor from Autozone. Ran fine after install and around town. Next day, truck died again and would not restart. Scan and got another p-0340. Figured I got a bad sensor so replaced with another from a different parts store. Truck ran fine for 3 days, then it got me again. This time, immediately restarted and made it home. Scanned and got another CPS code so I got another sensor from FORD.
Now truck will run until it heats up to operating temperature. Once there, it cuts out and will not restart until it cools all the way down. Scanned with a Snap-on scanner and all temps, pressures, etc looked great. Once oil temp reached 149 degrees, truck cut off. This time, I got a 1283 code.
Pulled IPC harness and have oil on connection. Reading other forums, I am leaning toward an IPC/IPR issue. All wires going to CPS have been checked for shorts, grounds, etc. and no issues.
ANY information or assistance with this is greatly appriciated. I don't want to throw money a parts that don't correct the issue.
Hopefully someone has had simular problems. Thanks in advance.
The auto part store CPS units have been problematic so getting one from Ford or IH is the best thing. You now have the upgraded Ford part so it should be more reliable.
You will need a working ICP to accurately diagnose the IPR. It needs to be replaced anyway (since it has oil in the connector) so might as well get a new one and see if that solves the problem. About 25% of the time a new ICP does the trick (the rest of the time they usually still function for a while even with oil in the connector...). Also check the tin nut on the IPR and make sure it's tight.
