I just had a Viper 5704 2 way paging remote start alarm installed on my 2012 Fx4 Ecoboost and when the installer ran the wires from the inside of the cab through the firewall he went through the hole that the rubber grommet was in just to the left of the brake pedal. Instead of going through the grommet/plug, he pulled it out and ran the wires beside it and now the rubber plug will not seal and I can hear turbo/engine noise in the cab. Has anyone else had an alarm installed on a 2010 or newer F150 with this same layout and if so where did the installer run the wires through the firewall? Should I have them pull the wires out and run them through the center of the grommet like they should have done or have them make a slit in the rubber from the edge to the center (radius cut) and make the best seal possible?
Screw that they should install the damn thing correctly using the grommet as its supposed to be used. When I installed my Western plow on my '98 F-250 I ran the wire for the control through the grommet and it sealed correctly. That wire bunch was about half an inch in diameter.
I'd go down there and demand it be fixed. Being a certified installer doesn't mean much these days. You have to look at who is doing the work and what kind of person they are. Do they look professional and neat? Or is their appearance sloppy and their demeanor matching. I've walked out of many places that install stereos or alarms or do tint because the employees give me a bad feeling. It usually starts with them walking around with their ball caps on crooked and their pants down past their butt. Then I peek in the back to see how they treat the cars they work on. I don't even give the manager an answer when he asks where I am going.
I agree that you should take it back and make them fix it. I had emergency lights installed on my truck and you can even tell which ones are factory and which ones aren't.
I have had so many problems with service stations including almost every Ford dealer that I've been to in Houston. This time I tried to do all required research and asked all of the important questions. They appeared to be legit but you never know untill its too late. Overall the install looks pretty good but they did a few dumb things. I also had h.i.d lights installed on both my truck and my wifes 09 expedition. The price was good but at the expense of doing a subpar job. I have some photos but don't know how to post them.
Ive learned to not let anyone beside me, my brother and a few select friends install thing on my truck. Most shops take shortcuts to cut their cost in supplies and overcharge the customer for the work. I assume to just buy what I need from them or somewhere else and do the install myself.
My list of installs on my truck:
HIDs, headlights and fogs, easiest
Amp wiring kit. run from pass. side firewall gromet to behind the back seat and ran the rca's and remote wire down the driver side up under the steering wheel to behind the radio. I also added a switch for the remote wire to turn off the amp on the side of the center console.
Pac audio interface to add an amp the the factory stereo. had to pull the center console back and remove the radio to plug in the harness.
Shop cost would have been crazy and I know how to do it all myself. Thats the best route if you know what your doing and you can do it how you want it, not how they do it
I also prefer to do everything possible myself because it is very difficult these days to find a shop or service company willing to do things correctly. Unfortunatly I have no idea how to wire electronics and don't have the time to read and learn as I go. I do most small mechanical jobs (brakes, oil, fuel filter etc) on my own because I'm tired of dealerships crazy prices and 2 hour "Quick Lubes"
I do all my own installs as well. When it comes to car audio and alarms I will buy from Crutchfield and do the work on a Saturday myself. I can call them up and get constant tech support. Once you call them initially and they get your order # in the system your phone # is on caller ID. If you call again they answer with , "Hey *your name* how can I help you again?" They already have your info on their screen. Best tech support and customer service I've ever seen. You get instructions specific to your vehicle, what tools you'll need pictures to go with step by step walk through instructions.
Now I know for next time. I think i may correct the problem myself instead of trusting these fools with my truck again. They will either redo my tint or refund my money though.
The guy that did my tint is really good. $160 for limo on the back doors and back glass and legal on the front 2. If your willing to drive a little out I the way I can give you his number
