need help loss of power lately

hey guys i need some help on a 2003 7.3 fx4.

the promblem started a week ago after swapping the lower gasket to the resevoir to the hpop. (its attached with the fuel filter on top). well short story the new part went on and the res was filled back up with rotella. cranked fine. three hours later on my way to work. she (truck) starts to shake violently upon acceleration. all coming from the engine managed to coast to work. blead the fuel valve a little. after work started driving home after about 6 miles she started again pulled over at a gas sstation went in a min or two came out and drove off and she was fine.

well a week later i find out i had a ripped boot from turbo to intercooler replaced it. started to hot rod it for a mile or two and she started shaking again.

if i let her sit for a min running or not. cold or hot she smooths out.

only thing i can think of is that im getting a lack of fuel to the motor weither it be the fuel pump isnt getting the fuel to the motor faster than what im using in the bowl that the fuel filter sets in.

need help please

How much fuel is in your tank? I just got done putting my gas tank back up into the truck. I had the same issues and I could hear the fuel pump sputtering pretty loud. I had a newer fuel pump so I popped the inlet line and dumped a line directly into a 5 gallon can of diesel. Pump and truck ran fine. I dropped the tank and found the rubber umbrella (fuel pickup) had broke and laid inside the tank. No baffles in the tank so when the fuel would slosh around it would starve the pump. I replaced the boot and just put in 40 gallons of diesel. Seems to run fine. Just a thought and good luck.

I got mine at the dealership for 38 dollars. Dieselorings.com has them for about the same price....I just didn't want to wait. I looked at the hutch mod but didn't see too much of advantage for me. Just me though. I am back together and good for another 12 years or so....hopefully!

Well got back from dealership now 307.00 down I did find out what was wrong its a combo of multiple things
1 socks in sender(tank) are stopped up.
2 the pick up is cracked and barely holding on(black screen umbrella)
3 fuel regulator gunked up not allowing fuel to return to tank( built. Up pressure)
4 hurt fuel pump Bc of #3

Going to go big this weekend
got wicked wheel
New pump w new lines( o riellys for 150.00)

Going to try the hutch mod while I'm in the tank fixing socks
picked up new regulator rebuild kit from ford. 89.00

Looking for input for who offers a pre pump fuel filter by racor or another company and what number. In microns before I have to add another lift pump to help the new pump with the bigger filter.

Do the hutch mod and get rid of all that stuff in your tank. For a pre filter all you need is a napa 3007 in line clear filter, less than 4 bucks. Baldwin also makes the same one as well as others. what are the socks you speak of? If you mean the filters in the mixing chamber, all that gets chucked with the hutch mod. Get a fuel pressure regulator from Riff Raff, FRX, your engine will thank you. And stop going to the dealer. You could have saved half that money and have a better set up.

frx info?????

well i already replaced the fuel pressure relief rebuild kit.

how does the frx install. some pics are greatly welcomed.

dont plan on buying anything from the dealer anytime soon.

btw i really cant afford the 700.00 plus fass or airdog systems

the 150.00 motorcraft from o riellys is the only thing close to my budget today.

I was having high rpm power issues as well as running out of fuel at 1/4 tank, after dropping the tank this is what I found...

heres the screens in side the tank..

I ordered this prepump kit from Strictly diesel..http://shop.strictlydiesel.com/store...ts/73L_TankKit a bit pricey, but its a nice kit.
My fuel pickup foot was broken off also and when I realized I needed one I couldn't get one so I didn't put one back in,I just made sure the SS pickup tube was down far enough and called it good. I've had it down past empty since then and haven't run out of fuel...
I also have Riffraff diesels FRX on as well, made a world of difference..http://www.riffraffdiesel.com/mm5/me...e=F731-RDP-FRx

If you're mechanically inclined, and have the tools you can build your own fuel system like I did with stainless hydraulic tubing. Would I do it again, umm probably not LOL, what a PITA it was to get all the correct bends and what-not but I did save a bunch. Enough to know I'll just buy it next time. Like others said, your truck will run better w/o the stupid mixing chamber in your fuel tank, and the pre-pump filter is something you can actually service as opposed to dropping the tank to clean that pickup filter. Good luck and have fun!
