I bought a 1980 F100 that has been in storage for 15 years. It is in good shape for its age, but there is a transmission problem that needs to be solved. It is 302 CID with C5 trans (I think, has 11 bolts in pan, 3 gears). The first gear engages with no problem and pulls strongly, but the change for second happens only with very high revs(over 3500rpm) and is not a smooth one. First thing I thougt was a oil change which revealed that there is something broken/loose in the trans. See the picture for the part that fell off from the transmission. I can't figure out what it is?
The guy who changed the transmission oils said that this came inside the transmission. He said it was most likely on the oil pan and dropped from there to ground.
Sure does look like the connector strut to hold the band... It would almost seem it is passing over 2nd and going to 3rd... Wonder if someone tried putting different springs in the actuator. The unfortunate part is that you will likely have to tear the trans down a bit to get it put back in. It is in the front part of the trans, but not accessible without removing the pump.
