Are these good trucks and do the engines have more horse power than regular trucks.Ive seen some on ebay and they were pretty low priced.I was just wondering if they have some factory defect or other problem to look out for.Thinking about buying one any info good or bad would be appreciated. There was a 1998 nascar edition 61.000 miles on ebay had a buy it now 8875 i thought this was cheap it sold the second day.Are these trucks high performance or just a lot of pretty graphics. Thanks Wes Tanner
If I'm remembering correctly, they had a 4.6, auto and the only performance improvement was they ran a different exhaust (possibly a Borla system). Other than that it was just badging, stickers, and the Nascar rims.
They did not sell well here in Nashville, TN. I'd say you could get one pretty cheap.
1998 was the 50th anniversary for the F series and NASCAR. To celebrate the occasion Ford produced 3000 of the NASCAR trucks. They were available with a 5 speed or automatic and all came with the 4.6. I have 112,000 miles on mine and the only thing that I have had to replace aside from the oil and usual stuff is the fan clutch and bumper. The reason that I had to replace the fan clutch was a close encounter with a freeway barrier in Houston(long story). After I hit the wall I removed my bumper and drove it home. Then to my dads shop 220 miles away. The fan shroud was pushed against the fan and it was not moving so the clutch was cooking. I didnt realize this untill I got there. Oh well. The water temp never moved out of the normal range and I had the AC going the whole time. I bought mine brand new for myself when I turned 18 and have had it ever since. The only things on the truck that suck are the factory yellow letter tires and the speed limiter. I put a set of 99 lightning wheels and tires on mine and they are awesome. As far as the factory mods go they had a roush exhaust system and a 3.73 gear in the back. I cant say anything bad about mine at all. With the way that I drive it I am surprised that it still runs like its new. If I had to say something bad about the truck it would be that I have a hard time keeping rear tires on it. Now its paid off and I'm saving for a supercharger and a T-56. I hope that this helps.
