I don't know about that gvwr of 8800 ? I'm looking at a title for the last truck I cut up and it was a '79 f-350 4x4 with a F3 beginning vin and the gvwr is 8550 on the title, so I don't know how any other Low Boy 3/4 ton 4x4 could have a higher rating. I'd ask them to check on that again.
Not saying ur wrong, but I have heard of a lot of 250's with an 8800 GVWR. I don't think he would lie, but he could be misinformed. As evan said, for a free truck, it's worth it even without a D60 front.
The highest GVWR that i'm aware of for a 78/79 standard cab F250 4x4 is #8400
If the GVWR on this truck really is #8800 maybe it's a 'Sno-Fighter' edition with the front D60, which would explain the higher GVWR.
Hopefully that's exactly what is going on here. Like I said I was trying to extract any info I could about the truck from this guy and he didn't know much. However, he was ADAMANT that the truck had the 8800# spring package. Fingers crossed.
I got a dana 60 out of a 76 with dual piston calipers. I had a HD44 with drum brakes that would not stay adjusted. The Dana 60 bolted right up to my 73 like it was made for it.
To see if it is a Dana 60 look at the right rear side of the axle for the markings. If you are real lucky it might still have the tag hanging from the cover.
I would be gone TONIGHT, if I ran into a deal like that. I mean, I'm talking about using sick days at work and just hitting the road if the truck has a HP D60. In the other case, I think even if a truck was being given to me I wouldn't ask so many questions to see what's up front, like other's have said just go get it and the parts can always be used or sold off. If your lucky it has what you WANT, if not all it is in the end is time and some effort to save a truck!

Agreed. I am actually down in the area this week for a business meeting. I called the guy last night and told him I'd like to swing by and take a look at it. He said he would call me today. He hasn't seen it in a couple years so he sent his son to go look at it and make sure it hasn't been cannabalized or anything like that. I will report back as soon as I hear something.
