I had to take my ford five hundred to the dealer. Took 5 minutes to plug it in and read the code. My guy did it for free. I figure it would be the same on a truck of the same age.
Thanks to some posters back in April, I found my code. It was behind the passenger side kick panel and BEHIND the fuse panel that you will find there. You have to remove the kick panel, step panel (says Super Duty on it) and the trim on the front of the door. Once you have removed that, take the two 7mm screws holding the fuse panel. You will find two labels on the back.
Look to the lower left of the label in the center of the fuse panel for a very small five digit number. THATS IT!!! You just saved yourself some money.

I have it on my explorer and us it all the time. I usually leave keys in the truck and us code to get in especially when I go to pt in the morning. Those in the military know what I am talking about. There is know where to put your keys with our pt uniforms.

You have an '04, so chances are its not going to be where I described. My owner's manual said that its printed on the computer module.... never found it. Found it on a fuse panel... A..holes!!! Found it thanks to doing search on this site for my specific stuff. Do a search on this site for your specific year etc... That's how I found mine.
