about the only way you will get louder than a 40 series is no muffler at all.

I think the body on there were a little longer - center 2.5" inlet and offset 2.5" outlet

Don't know about making it louder, but a Magnaflow will make it sound better....

this.

flowmasters are gayer than 8 guys fornicating 9 guys. they sound like shyte and i hate them

if you are just after obnoxiously loud, like most hilljacks, dual 2'' or 1 7/8's straight pipes out to big long tips like these will do it. they act like megaphones and make the exhaust loud as hell, but straight pipes are dumb on a stock motor. the small diameter pipe will make your truck sound like it's going 100mph anytime you are on the throttle.

duals with those tips and whatever mufflers you like will be loud as well. i prefer glasspacks, short 12'' ones sound the best for dual 2.5'' pipes, at least that's what my ears tell me. single exhaust, i'd run 3'' pipe with the longest 3'' glasspack you can get to fit. like 30+ inches long.

did i mention flowmasters are gay?

and muffler placement and amount of tailpipe matter as well. if you just want roar no tailpipe, just a turndown pointed to where you want the noise aimed. if you want more cackle place the mufflers as close to the manifolds/headers as possible with tailpipe all the way out the back.

why the hell am i giving out tard tech about obnoxious exhaust????

Dan, idk, but my wheeler had flowmaster copies with 3 inch exhaust into 5 inch "tips" and it sounded pritty dam good.

But that had some cam in it to help. With no mufflers you couldn't even hear yourself think.

The mufflers I like are called "VX" and made by AP exhaust. I have had them on 3 or 4 rigs. Also a 5 inch tip helps out the sound. 18-22 inches. Whatever you can fit. With my old age I've been going with a y pipe right in front of the muffler, and a single in/out, and a single tail pipe. Sounds decent and gets plenty loud.

I suggest replacing that wheezy mod motor with a nice built 385 series, then you can run the same muffler and it will be much louder.

dave, i just personally hate FM's. every jerk off from here to the moon suddenly thought they had a hotrod after getting them on their vehicle and i just got tired of the sound. plus, to me they make a motor sound wheezy like it has a cold or something

the little resonator ones sound pretty good if you have a ridiculous cam, but other than that i don't care for them and will continue to cut them off of every truck i buy.
