For the longest time I though I had an exhaust leak at my passenger side manifold causing a very annoying rattle/buzzing, but after a more thorough inspection, I realized the noise has been coming from my PCV valve.
I just checked more thoroughly because the noise has been getting louder and it has been worrying me. I ended up squeezing ther vacuum line going to the PCV valve and the noise stopped.
I know the obvious course of action is to replace the PCV valve which should only be like 3 bucks, but I am just wondering has anybody else had a problem like this? And are there any brands I should stay away from when getting a new valve? The valve is really loud and I can hear it inside my truck at idle. I don't know if the valve was just kinda crappy in the first place when I got it or if there is a bigger problem that may cause it to go bad. I replaced it about 3 years ago so its not super old, but it started making the noise roughly 6-8 months ago, maybe more.
My truck runs great (except for an occasional dip in RPMs when I depress the clutch but nothing too bad) so I don't see there being anything wrong with her, but I'm just being overly cautions I suppose. That damn noise has been bugging the shiat out of me and I'm curious if anyone else has the same issue.
Thanks, yeah I just bought the Motorcraft one after work and put it on. The sound is gone now! They are quite a bit more though.. $13, but I know they are much better quality so that's fine.
Five will get you ten that the issue isn't just the PCV valve. When the valve gets old it doesn't snap shut when hot oil from the crankcase hits it like it is supposed to. When this happens oil gets up into the hose and weakens it. The arc that the hose follows is just sharp enough that when the walls weaken, the line collapses enough to cause the cavitation that you are hearing. Replace the hose as well as the PCV valve.
I actually did put a new hose on it just last week. The last time I changed my PCV valve I kinda tore up the end of the old vacuum hose with pliers because the old valve broke off and was stuck in there. I was always worried the hose would fail or crack more then I messed it up so I finally got around to getting a new hose. Oreillys didn't have the pre shaped hose so I had them cut me a few feet of vacuum hose. I really wish I had the pre shaped hose (because I'm kinda OCD) but I don't know how much the hose would run me to get at a Ford dealer.. Thats alright I suppose as long as this hose holds up I'm sure not too many people will notice my PVC hose doesn't look as good as it used to!

What you can do is visit your local AutoZone and see if they have it pre-formed. From their site i only see chrysler stuff like this
Hmm I'll definitely check that out. I live about 10 miles out of town on a ranch off a highway and Oreillys is the nearest parts store. There is an Autozone not too terribly far away though too so I'll bring in my old hose and see if I can match it with something like that.
Yeah, i recently have been visiting the AZ stores nearby and getting parts and have figured out that AZ has better workers and a better selection of parts than Oriellys. We have a store opening nearby that i plan to apply for.
Yeah I've realized Autozone usually has a little more stuff and they are cheaper. I like the people at my local Oreillys though they all know me since I'm in there almost every other day.
Yeah there is one guy at my local oreillys that knows my bronco and a friend of mine works at napa. I hope to get to know the az guys cause they seem to be more competent than the oreillys guys.
