mass air plug pins

hello everyone,
found this site and hopefully someone here can help me out. i have a late 97 early 98 e-150 with a 4.2.
question is this.
i need a new mass air sensor. the one in the van now is a 4 pin plug that goes into the sensor itself. part number f6df-12b579-ea. f meaning in the 90's era. the new sensor i have is a 6 pin. part number yc2f-12b579-ba. this is a 2000 era sensor. the pig tail from the 4 pins plugs directly into the 6 pin plug on the new sensor. i did not start the van though.
will the 6 pin sensor work? if not why. from what i have found is that the 6 pin is the new style and the 2 extra pins are the ones on the outside left and outside right for the IAC.. i do not need these because it is in my air tube to the throttle body.
are the pins in both plugs the same colors, location , and do the same thing except for the 2 outer which is the IAC? or do i need to repin.
need help to pass stupid emission test, and get the van running with out chugging.
thank you to all that can help.
have a awsome 4th too.

Your van has 4 wires;

tan/lightblue=goes to the computer

red=12v power from PCM(computer) relay

lightblue/red=signal into the computer

black/white=ground wire

The diagram did not list the pinout numbers

The 2000 van with a 4.2 does have 6 pins. They are;

4 tan/lightblue=goes to the computer

2 red=12v power from the PCM relay

5 lightblue/red=mass air sensor signal in to computer

3 black/white=ground

6 grey=goes to the computer and is labeled "IAT"

1 grey/red=common power supply for the computer sensors.

If you can match the colors up to the right pins, you could try it and see if it will work.

It does look like pin 1 and pin 6 are for the "IAT" on the newer unit.

thanks,
the 6 pin sensor i have does not have numbers with the pins. it has letters.
E A B C D F.
i need to know the numbers you gave me with the wire color to be matched with the letters.
example.
is #1 with letter E, #2 with letter A etc. do the numbers go in order from left to right? 123456 is the same as E A B C D F?
hope i explained it clear enough. it is a little confusing.
thanks again

My diagrams don't have that info. I was looking around in Autozone's site, and they do have connector views for a 2002 e150 van. I started looking through them, but ran out of time, they may have it, they may not, some of the pictures would not come up. But they had a lot I didn't get to. Just register, plug in a 2002 van, and look in repair guides, wiring diagrams, connector views. I assume you know what the connector pinout is on your van since you have it there in the engine compartment.
