Been having this noise for the past 6 months. Driving me nuts. Isn't very loud at idle, but 800-1200 rpm it "rattles" pretty loud imo (especially on decelaration). Almost sure it is gonna be phasers, but wanted to share the video to get opinion.
Doesnt do it until warmed up
No Decrease in power
goes away over 1200 rpm's or so and under 800 rpm's.
Using 5w 30
Afraid it's gonna get worse and kill the engine.
Had a 04-06 come by at the campground the other day that sounded exactly the same. wanted to speak to him, but never saw him again, lol.
Hate the thought of dropping 2k on this problem to have it come back.

by the way, if I disconnect the passenger side vct solenoid, it is much smoother. So, I replaced the solenoid and no change. What does leaving it disconnected do? Fully advance or retard?

If it rattles like a diesel it's probably phasers. I have heard of people running that way for several thousand miles without any further problems. It's a gamble. I haven't had any engine problems with my 06 5.4L. But I only have 50,000 miles on it.
