Wow.....................wow. When I was in kindergarten calculators would have been far too big to take and all the paper they used would've gotten expensive.
And at 0810 every morning the pledge echoed down the halls.
Not a big surprise. Just be glad they didn't require you to get her an iphone.
Talyn, you got that home school thing almost right. And I've done that very thing with my oldest. I've been homeschooling my kids (OK, most of it is done by my wife) since day 1 and my oldest just turned 16.
Jim, my wife just retired from 35 years teaching in Indiana. She taught first grade for 25 years and the last year they moved her to 3rd grade just to teach the state test. That is all they want kids to do is pass state test to get scores up for more fed. money. Kids do not learn things they need to know to survive in normal day to day life. The Feds need to get their azz out of education and let teachers teach. Sorry for the rant but I am so pissed off at the no child left behind it is not funny. No physical education and they wonder why the obesity problem is so bad plus the crap food they serve and call it school lunch. Jeep
That kind of crap is exactly the reason why our three are being home schooled. I was home schooled growing up and it afforded me the opportunities to learn a lot of things that I wouldn't have been able to otherwise. Sad thing is that home schooling families are paying twice for their kids' schooling. Once for them to go to public school and then once for the home schooling. Just doesn't seem right. Kinda like paying for Obamacare (or the penalty for not taking it) even if you don't want it...
They really should have called that program "No Child Pushed Ahead". It is pretty obvious that the program just lowered the standards for all the kids so that everyone could be kept on the same level. Just seems kinda stupid to me.
My wife taught our older two (twins) Kindergarten last year and my 4 year old sat in on most of the lessons. She was reading me books last night before bed time. She reads on almost the same level as the twins (soon to be 7). Now tell me why it is that some concessions can't be made to tailor the teaching style to a child so that they can learn the same things as their peers!? The issue is that nobody wants their kid to be in a class for kids with "learning disabilities" so instead they "mainstream" those kids and just slow the rest down to that level.
Im not letting my bias show am I? lol.
I'm just not sure that these boards and panels realize that they're screwing around with an entire generation when they make these changes.
my first 5 years were in a 2 room school house. grades 1-5 in one class, and grades 6-8 in the other.
at 6 years old i knew just as much as the 10 year old kids did.
you either kept up or got a swift kick in the *** from the other kids for making the teacher waste her time with you.
I'm trying to remember, but do they even do math in Kindergarten? I thought it was just basically an introduction to this is school. Learn to be in school, write your name, and color inside the lines.
Well I guess if you want to try to look at the bright side, at least they didn't say make sure they bring a smart phone with a calculator app.
