The C6 in my truck has a BIG 63 casted right on top of the bellhousing, and it's on the side of it as well. Does anyone know what it means if anything?
Guessing it's some kind of mold or production number or something (from the foundry). Every c-6 I've seen, has had a different number.
When I worked in a foundry, we had numbers we changed out for production runs. That way, if there's a problem in the future, they can track it and recall the lot if necessary.
That makes sense, but I talked to someone on the internet and he said that there was a C6 out of a 60's Ford pickup in his auto shop and it had the same 63 casted right on top of the bellhousing, assuming that transmission was original of course.
If this C6 is in your 86 with a 351W, that kind of rules out the case having been cast in the 60's. The Windsor pattern C6 didn't come along until around 77 or so, for the 351W in E series vans. Prior to this, all Windsor pattern engines used a C4 or FMX/MX type auto trans, regardless of car, van, or pickup.
The first F series to get a W pattern C6, were equipped with a 300 or 302, since the 351W didn't start finding it's way into F series until 82 (IIRC)
