what gas tank will work for high boy other than in cab?
The high boy originally had the in cab tank and I'm putting a 78 body on that had a front tank. Which I'm sure you all know won't fit do to the divorced transferase an the rear tank won't fit do to the narrower frame rails. All I can think of is using the 3 "saddle tank" that would go in wheel well. Just wanted to know what you have found to work best. Thanks alot

A popular tank that is used is a Bronco II tank. Move the rear crossmember back a little further and make new front one just to have something to mount the tank straps too. They fit in there pretty well. That's about the cheapest option. The other option to get a custom tank from aerotanks which I have and is a larger tank, but very expensive too.

like bucks said,i did the same with my 74,bronco 2 gas tank from an 84 ,its bigger than the in cab tank too.mounted mine up tight to the rear cross member and ran 2 straps around bottom and 2 around the top of the tank.used a piece of angle with 2 holes drilled in the ends and put it in front to hold tank in place and mounted those straps to the angle iron. i also have a 4" lift on mine so clearance isnt an issue with mine, but maybe on those not lifted

crazyredneckanyhow had a plastic tank off what I believe was an 80'd ford chassis cab, and the chassis cabs had the narrow frames like the high boys. he said it fit right in between the rear crossmembers if I remember right. I think your best bet is to measure your frame rails and crossmembers and get a good idea of what size tank would fit, and go to the junkyard.

You could be like me and get a fuel cell, but they are pretty expensive.
If you could, try to find a 80`s ford cab-chassis truck like hasteranger said about. My brother has one of them (ex fire truck) and the tank is plastic, so it wont ever rust and its narrow enough to fit. The only issue I see with it would be if you ever needed a new sending unit or tank staps, they`d be a pain to find.

Well I'm using a 78 body don't really want to drill all the holes and the filler neck hole. And it seems to me that all my 79's seats go back farther than my 77 with the in cab tank and being 6'5" I like my room. I guess I'll just have to ask my neighbor if I can look at his see if I can get some measurements and part numbers. And some pics to show those interested

Sounds similar to the dims of the rear tank I'm making for my highboy crew. My tank should hold 45 gals.
Also one tank I don't see listed here that will go right in the back of a highboy is one out of a SCS. They are plastic too... BUT, you have to get creative with the sending unit as no one makes them anymore. A bronco sending unit out of an 80's bronco is close if I remember right.
