I have excursion 2005 6.0L , I drained the engine, transmission oil and coolant water. Please what is the best types of Oil to be used in the car and quantity for engine & transmission . note: the transmission type I have is Auto 5 speed.
Oil - Synthetic 5W40 CJ+ oil. Examples - Rotella T6 or Mobil 1 Turbo diesel truck oil. 14 to 15 quarts.
Tranny - Mercon LV or Mercon SP ONLY. Quantity depends on how you emptied the system.
Coolant - Shell ELC Coolant for Diesel Engines. Examples can be Fleetrite, Shell, Catepillar, etc. The Ford Motrocraft Gold is fine also as long as you flush it every 50k miles and don't have any slight head gasket leaks (silicates can precipitate out and plug the oil cooler). ALWAYS use distilled water to mix with the 100% coolant. System holds 27 quarts, so you need 3 1/2 gallons of 100% coolant (assuming your system was adequately flushed w/ 100% distilled water).
I agree with everything Bismic said. For oil examples, I use Amsoil on everything since the first oil change and so far no issues. I use their diesel engine oil, their transmission fluid (SP and LV compatible product), and their Propylene Glycol antifreeze without issue. Some people do not like this product, others do, and there are many other great products out there too such as Mobile 1, etc. You have to do your own research, find a product or products you are comfortable with, and then live with the results. I also send a sample of oil to Blackstone with each oil change. I probably do not need to do this every time, but it gives me piece of mind and I view it as cheap insurance to know how my oil is holding up.
