I have looked in garage and bodywork and can't come up with any answers. I am moving forward in the process of restoring my 70' 250 C/C. She is getting sand blasted, cleaned and painted down to the frame. Need pages to goto to get ideas on what to build to help with this process. Any thoughts appreciated.
I took my 69 crew down to the frame, removed every nut and bolt, sand blasted the frame and now in the process of
putting it back together.. thank god for a digital camera, i took
100's of pics of before it was apart shots, at different angles to make sure i knew how certain things go back together.
That's an excellant idea. Masking tape can only go so far. Thanks for the idea. It will help getting it all back together, but I still am looking for some good ideas on taking them off the frame. (with out damaging them.) I know I can come up with an idea. I would like to use an idea that has already been proven to work.
If you are removing the cab, then build yourself a wooden cart to put it on. Mount some casters on it so you can push it around.
I did this back when I removed the cab on my '70. I took some 2x4's and bolted them together to fit just inside the bottom edges of cab. I used small casters that I picked up at the junk store cheap. If you are working in gravel or something like that, larger wheels will be needed to make it roll.
If you like, my crewcab is on a dolly i built from wood, if you like i can take pics and email it to you for ideas...
I can roll the whol cab around by myself with ease..
Let meknow
I forgot to add, as for removing the cab, I took off the 4 doors and
all the glass and then unbolt the cab, use a floor jack and a 6x6 piece of wood to get the front up, place a 4x4 under the cab
in the center of the front doors, do the same for the rear, then
you have options, get 4 people together and lift it all at once or
tie the two ends to gether of the 4x4's with a 2x4 and jack it up so the cab slides down the 4x4 onto a dolly(i removed my can this way) the rockers are very strong in these old trucks(aslong as there rust free) and i had no problem removing the massive cab.
