Chrome plating

Is there any businesses in Mo that do custom chrome plating? I'd like to talk to someone who is familiar with the process to get an idea of what the capabilities and limitations of the process is.

The EPA has cracked down so hard on it, that it's too expensive to justify doing anymore. Finding a shop that actually does real, triple plating is next to impossible. When you do, you can have a new part shipped in from overseas for less money. (talking about common parts like bumpers, here) As far as custom chroming, most places just flash plate stuff now. It's a cheaper, lower quality of work, but they sure charge a premium for it.

What exactly are you trying to do?

I was looking to get info on black chrome. I like the looks of the old wagon spoke wheels. I thought that if it was feasible, that black chrome on them would be a cool unique look. Not to mention do the exterior chrome the same way.

X2 on what Alan said about even finding a business to do it....Maybe power coating the rims would be easier to get done?

But could you get the sheen,or look, that you get from black chrome? Plus if possible I'd like to be able to do it to the trim and bumpers.

I haven't been able to research anything yet. Too many hours of driving a truck down the road. I have time to think and no time to do research. But thank you for the leads. I am wondering, could you replicate the look with paint and some sort of finish?

"black chrome" is not chrome. It's anodizing.

You'll have to put their name and moniker together for me until I get to know who's who, and even then I may be a lost cause.

This is the type of things that I need to get schooled on. After watching enough of the car shows on velocity I've come to the conclusion that if you have an idea, someone can figure out how to make it reality.

I'll definitely get by there. I'm on here on my phone and it not conducive to viewing everyone's profile. I'm not around the computer much until the weekends. My name is Larry for those that don't know yet.

As long as you have decent chrome to begin with, that's gonna be about the cheapest way to get that look.
