I have an 89 f250 with a carb'd 460 and a 4 speed manual.. Would that be the t19? What would the tcase be?
I went and pulled it at the local truck pulls and pulled a measly 140 ft. I got beat by a lifted Chevy 1500 with 35s and a 350. While I thought the sled was overweight, I still had no wheel spin in 4 low in second gear. My 351w on 33 last year pulled 235 in the same class, I thought this cammed 460 with a 750 edlebrock, cam and headers would run away with it, it didn't.. is that a good trans for pulling or is there something not right with this motor?
Sounds to me like a motor problem, 2nd low maxes out at like 6 MPH I thought. that 460 should burn the tires off with thaat much gear ratio, are you sure your clutch wasnt slipping?
If the clutch was slipping, it would have been a good smoke show because it was a good 30-40 seconds of WOT. it really didn't feel like it had the torque... what's the timing suppose to be set at on these? 10* BTDC ? Maybe I was in 4 high ( tcase pulled all the way back to the seat) or its just desperately out of time...
If it was that far out of time it should stutter at WOT. 10* is what its supposed to be set at. The 4 speed trannys are all really good for pulling. All the way back to the seat is 4lo so that's not the problem. How high is the motor revving when you get on it? Does it rev up quick? If its that under powered it sounds like engine trouble.
