So, I ended up buying a 6.0L fan to replace mine instead of going with the E-fans. I do tow heavy now and then and I also enjoy that A/C, so I figured it was just the right (and easiest) thing to do. The temp guage would sway from the "O" to the "A" and I couldn't idle for 5 minutes to fuel up before she started getting pretty warm. So I guess "no fan" just isn't for me.

Mine sat and idled for over an hour the other day, but it was only about 30* outside. The temp gauge stayed between the O and R.

LOL!! I guess I should have mentioned it was 30* and almost 3 feet of snow! Not so lucky! LOL!! The truck was sitting and idling while I was trying to plow my road so I could get out. I had already got the truck stuck twice, the second time was going DOWN HILL! LOL!!!

We really need numbers here instead of speculation. That said, I mean before and after temperatures on EOT, Coolant, and E40D if automatic, and same driving conditions. All these three play a big roll in the overall performance on the truck. I'm certainty not discounting the performance possibility, just the data behind the "it feels better" and possible consistences in the long run.

Mine has been off all summer, drove slow in traffic in 95* weather, no problem, been sitting at stop lite for 10 minutes, no problem. I have actually noticed that when I stop at a lite, the temp goes down a little. Not a big fan of AC, but mine works just fine except when stopped. I still want to add an e fan just in case.
Took the fan off my aod also, but never thought about the tranny temp. Need to add a gauge and keep a watch. I will probably just go ahead and add the e fan to that one. What temp should the tranny be?

One question above was if the 6.0L fan is a bolt on thing?, is it? Do you know the difference in weigth between stock and 6.0?

yes the 6.0 is a bolt on fan also the difference in weight between the two as i have found out is 4 pounds of a difference as the 6.0 is 6 lbs and the 7.3 is 10 lbs

This is what I have written down from when I was playing with the e-fans a lot. All the temps are from this past summer with temps between 95-110*. I still have one last thing to change on mine to see if it makes any difference and that is to add the temp probe for the fan controller into the upper radiator hose. I believe the fans are turning off while cruising b/c the temp probe is cooling off from the wind. Flex-a-lite makes a kit to put the probe into the radiator hose, I just haven't done it yet.

Stock fan, new OEM 203* t-stat:
-normal coolant temp- 203-215*. Never wrote down towing temps as they weren't monitored.
-normal oil temp- 203-215* unloaded and up to 225* towing.

SD radiator swap, OEM 195* t-stat, SD Flex-a-lite fans.. no gasket to seal fan shroud to radiator:
Normal coolant temp- 195-210*. Up to 215* towing
Normal oil temp- 195-212*. Up to 218* towing

New SD Mishimoto Aluminum radiator, SD flex fans, added gasket to seal fan shroud to radiator,OEM 195* t-stat:
-all temps about the same as OEM SD radiator.

Mishimoto radiator, SD Flex fans, 180* t-stat:
-normal coolant temp-200*. Up to 210* towing
-normal oil temp- 185-195*. Up to 215* towing.

All towing temps are cruising 75-85mph. My oil temps seem to heat up more when I'm cruising above 70mph, most likely due to high ICP and possibly the fans turning off. I should also say that I don't always monitor coolant temp while towing, so I gave the info I have seen, but that is not to say they haven't been higher.

I never went over 210 hauling 10k with no fans, but I was only hauling at 55. You didnt' want to go much faster than that with the tires that were on this trailer, and the fact they were mostly flat. haha.

It was 100+ out though.

Thank you sir ... that is the data I was looking for. Tried to rep ya but no go, maybe someone else can ...

Ill be honest.I thought all this was INSANE! THEN my fan decided to unthread its self upon a rapid engine decel....going through rad like butter at3k rpm....
with no fan to speak of i then replaced the rad and added flexalite dual 15.5 fans...it was then that i found my truck had an improper alternator...so thinking that the proper 130a alternator would clear up my problems i replaced an otherwise working alt.....NO good, alt puts out 130 yet will not keep the needle up at idle with ac on (fans)...My temps have otherwise been unaffected on the stock gauge in any of my circumstances weather in 106 temps at idle or cruising.
I have not towed at all so i cant say on that subject.
my e fans melted my cheapo fuse holder and i havent had fans for two months..no difference...

For anyone interested, RockAuto sells the 6.0L fan for $57.79. Its the one I have and works great, bolts right up to the stock fan clutch. Wish I could get away with no fan but I tow around 18k too much in hot weather and I need A/C!!
