My cousin has a 6.0 thats giving him problems now. He's had it for 6 years and I think it has a bigger turbo and injectors. It has an egr delete and the oil cooler was replaced not too long ago. It has 170k on it and his tow/haul is flashing which I know has a code stored and his gauge will drop down and come back to normal. It also says check gauge right next to it. The sensor has been changed three times. He's lost. He also saidbit will drop out of gear sometimes when driving and will randomly come back in.
The late-2004/early-2005 seems to be the model year range that had issues with the TFT sensor and/or internal transmission harness to make this an otherwise bulletproof transmission that is ten times better than the 4R100 it replaced.

Correct me if I'm wrong Mike but, the tft sensor wouldn't cause the tranny to drop in and out of gear would it? Sounds more like a tuner/solenoid problem to me.

NOPE. The most obvious symptom of a failed or failing TFT sensor is for the Trans Fluid Temp gauge not to function, along with a loss of TFT input to the PCM. As far as what other symptom to expect, I couldn't tell you, other than the only difference between COLD and HOT operations that I'm aware of, are the torque converter lockup and the transmission fluid cooler bypass. Dropping in and out of gearing sounds more like a low fluid level type of concern.
I saw his post and the sensor has been replaced 3 times he said. But the wiring harness thing I will have to tell him about. I don't see him often but I've heard of the sensor being a common problem before
