This has got to be simple, right? I am barely a shadetree mechanic so bear with me here.
I have a fuel leak. A buddy says it's my fuel return line and I've seen it myself.
I have removed the airbox to get at stuff and am trying to R&R the return fuel line from the rear drivers-side of the engine down behind the block to where it meets up with the metal return line.
I have totally loosened the hose clamps at each end but cannot pull off the rubber hose. I have a feeling I'll have to slice the rubber hose to remove it totally but don't want to damage anything ...
1. Are the lines and the Tee barbed to hold the hose in place?
2. Is the Tee plastic or metal?
1yes, there are barbs on the ends.
2 The caps on the injectors ar plastic, the tee on the rear of the engine is brass.
It would be a good idea to replace the o-rings under the plastic injector caps, and the rubber lines in between them while you are there as desterbing the caps breaks the seal, and the harden o-rings will not reseal giving you another place for air to get into the system.
You really should do them all. It's the most common maintenance item on the idi. You can get a top-notch kit to do this from typefour (a user here) for like $40, and it only takes a couple of hours to do. If you only repair one, then something else will leak soon enough.
Thanks - point well taken. When I have a predictable income stream again, glow plugs and these lines are on the list as well as replacing a fuel tank and an exhaust line. For now it's bare minimums.
