fuel line

I know this is a ford forum but i have general fuel line question. Im putting a fuel pump out of a 4 runner into a pick up and I need to extend the fuel lines. The return and vent line are both rubber and the out line is steel. Im looking for a quick easy cheap way to extend them. Im not to worried about the life of the modification

I can't exactly picture what you're trying to accomplish, but in general, to extend rubber fuel lines you can simply use longer rubber fuel hose. To extend a steel or aluminum line, you have two options. The first would be to simply replace the entire line in question. You would have to bend the new line and flare both ends. You could also leave the existing line and add a shorter length of line, flaring both ends. You could then join the existing line and the extension using a union fitting.

For any one fuel line, always use the same diameter throughout the entire line. For example, if you've got 3/8" hose coming off the truck but your pump has a 5/16" barb for the hose, modify accordingly until everything is common. Otherwise fuel will spray everywhere no matter how well you clamp the hose.

with the rubber hoses i dont want to replace the whole hose i just want to add on a short length, can i use a short length of steel clamped inside the two pieces of hose? Or will this cause a leak? the two rubber lines are a vent and return line

If you just use steel line between the two hoses, they'll pull off no matter how tight you clamp them. You would need to bead each end of the line to keep the clamps in place. Why can't you just replace the entire hose with the length you need? That's the correct way of doing it. Fuel line is around a dollar a foot.

im thinking a might replace the whole line, but i know the local parts store is going to charge more than a dollar a foot. im trying to get this done as cheap as possible. btw the piece of steel idea would work for the vent line? or is there pressure in that line?
